CMS Physics

The LHC is the only collider in the world that allows for the direct study of the Higgs boson, multifaceted searches for dark matter and physics beyond the Standard Model, addressing three of the five most important physics topics in high-energy physics today. The CMS collaboration has already published well over a thousand physics papers in peer-reviewed journals. The CMS publications based on LHC collision data cover a variety of topics, including searches for new physics, Higgs boson discovery and studies, top quark and b quark physics, Standard Model measurements, heavy-ion physics and detector performance.

Fermilab CMS physicists have led a number of physics analyses on some of the most challenging current topics in HEP. They have developed innovative analysis and sophisticated object identification techniques and applied them in new measurements and searches, increasing CMS sensitivity for discovery. They have also led classic analyses that were an essential part of the core physics program of CMS, leveraging institutional knowledge and strength in scientific leadership.

In recent years Fermilab CMS scientists and research associates have been actively engaged in physics analysis mainly in the following areas:

  • Higgs physics studies
  • Searches for supersymmetry and exotica
  • Searches for dak matter
  • Precision measurements of Standard Model processes
